Stagis to help Copenhagen win European Green Capital award

We are very proud and exited to announce that we have been chosen to assist the City of Copenhagen in their pursuit to win the European Green Capital Award in 2014.

The prestigious award, which is given annually by the European Commission, is an endorsement of the winner as the most green city in Europe.

The City of Copenhagen has been shortlisted along with Bristol and Frankfurt Am Main to make a final presentation before a European Commission jury in Bruxelles on June 8. Stagis will assist the City of Copenhagen in creating a presentation that will highlight the unique “green” qualities that Copenhagen possesses.

In the process of identifying Copenhagen’s green qualities, Stagis will utilize a 3-part process involving culture, design and communication. First, we will identify and document specific examples of the City’s way of working with green solutions. Secondly, we will create a design for the presentation that will help to showcase these examples. Finally, we will produce a plan for communicating our findings in the final presentation and help to train the presenters.

During the months of April and May, we will work intensively on creating the best possible presentation of Copenhagen as Europe’s greenest Capital. If all goes according to plan, Copenhagen will be awarded the title of European Green Capital 2014 at the award ceremony in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain on June 29 2012.

DDA Bar: How do authentic design companies compete?

On April 18th Stagis is hosting DDA Bar in cooperation with Danish Design Association (DDA) in Stagis’ office in Kompagnistræde, Copenhagen. The event is themed around architecture and design, and the speakers professor Kristian Kreiner, Copenhagen Busines School and Nikolaj Stagis, CEO Stagis will each provide insights on the idea of authenticity as a way of developing the design agency and it's ability to compete - even under a strict set of rules.

Professor Kristian Kreiner is on the verge of publishing his book “Dialog og konkurrence” (Dialogue and competition) on architectual competitions. At the event, he will discuss the need for designers with an approach based on autheticity in today’s design competitions. His argument is, that is has become more and more common that competitions today are so organized, that the creative aspect of design is suffering.

The event will be concluded with networking and refreshments from Bøgedal Bryghus (Boegedal Brewery). Sign up for the event on DDA’s website.

First site in 10 years

Last week we finally launched the new website for 'Kastanievej Efterskole' - a Copenhagen based independent boarding school for lower secondary students. Its been a long process of defining the new framework for the website, developing the information flow, designing, programming and finally introducing the teachers to the new website where everybody contributes to a dynamic site.
Stagis developed identity design and the schools first website 10 years ago, this is only their second site, which we hope will last for many years - if not 10 - less can make it as well!
Kastanievej is one of our oldest clients, why its been important to create a product that corresponds to their needs as well as challenge how they use their website as a tool for communication. One of the new features on the site, is a 'daily life' news stream where every teacher contributes with notes, pictures, movies and sound from their daily work with the students. The news will be directed to relevant pages on the site and create a vivid website, reflecting the colorful life at the boarding school.
The new website evolve the identity design as well as keeping the old spirit of the chestnut leaf which is the characteristic symbol for Kastanievej!

Going for gold

To be honest I'm not a huge sports person, nevertheless the European Championship in Athletics dragged my attention yesterday. It was the medals round the necks of the champions I found exciting. The medals are in my opinion quite remarkable due to the v-shaped design, and as the medals are hanging from a white ribbon, the medal itself is a perfect reflection of the ribbon.
I'm note sure if the medal lead my thoughts to the sport, but its very simple and beautiful. The designer is the Spanish Martin Ruiz de Azua's who is a man of medals. Among others he designed medals for the 2003 World Swimming Championships, a transparent bubble filled circular design, which indeed leads my thoughts to swimming.

New website for the Corporate Governance Agency

During the Fall of 2009 we developed a new identity for the Corporate Governance Agency of the Danish Ministry of Culture. Part of this project was to develop the IA and design a new website. During late 2009 and early 2010 the site has been technically implemented and now it's finally launched. Even though The Corporate Governance agency is still working on some updates you are very welcome to visit the site.

The pervasive idea in the design is to symbolise the Corporate Governance Agency as an ‘interpreter’ between the Ministry and the Institutions (their clients). We wanted to emphasise this throughout the imagery for the identity, by shooting photographs of the employees in the scenery of their clients, where they actually function as interpreters. This is implemented in the website as well, where the part of the logo representing the cultural institutions contains images and the most important information for the institutions.

Employees as interpreters of corporate identity

In part of implementing the Danish Ministry of Culture Corporate Governance Agency’s new identity, we designed a new website for the agency. The website is being programmed alongside a few other sites for the Ministry of Culture, and will launch in January. This week we produced the last photos for the website. The idea is to photograph different employee’s at different known danish culture institutions (their clients), to emphasise the concept about Danish Ministry of Culture Corporate Governance Agency is interpreters between the Ministry of Culture and the institutions.
