Corporate Blogging

Having just been away on holiday I was glad to come back to Stagis to find out that we are now blogging! In my brief intro to the world of blogging the first think that crossed my mind was how big corporations use blogging as a means of communication to the outside world. How will they regulate that nothing is written that can have a negative effect on the company’s reputation - or will they regulate at all? Who will monitor what comments are posted on the blogs - if any? Will management use the employer’s blogs to monitor what they express about their own role in the company? Maybe these things won’t become issues at all because blogging is just a new way of communicating where people are expected to behave in the same way as the usually do when communicating at work.

If U got it - flaunt it!

Are you who you say you are? The world is filled with people who pretend, act or even lie their way to an identity different from their real one. Would you trust them, invite them into yor house, let them take care of your investments or just your pet? No - of course you would not!

Well, but what if we weren't talking about people but companies - would that be different?

Should it be different?

The fact is that many large brands base themselves on business values that are quite different from the dreams they market!

The new "big thing" will be transparency and autenticity - and that also goes for the supply chain too. Shall we say "from stable to table"!

Danish fashion brand NOIR is one of the first companies in the highly idealized fashion business, to market high fashion clothing with a history that is actually worth telling - seen from a humanistic perspective.

Normally all storries from the world of international fashion are focusing on the designer, the lavish embroideries, the models and the shows ... but what about the supply-chain? The poor farmers in Africa or the workers in India and China?

For the above mentioned brand - clarity and insight is natural. Noir has fully public annual reports on finances and a larger percentage of the years profit goes into a fund. A fund that support the farmers in Africa where Noir fabrics are produced, supporting know-how, supporting school for the farmers children and developing the society in general. See - that's a story worth telling!

Free your mind!

"What road should I choose", asked Alice.
"That depends a great deal on where you want to go", said the Cheshire Cat.

Inspiration can be found in many places and in many qualities. Where to look for good inspiration depends a great deal on what kind of problem you want to solve through design. You could do the easy thing: Copying - wow, big deal, it will sure make you a hot shot in your business. Besides making your life dull and unbearable, it will also cost you a lot of money spend on defending the rights to the design you nicked from someone else ;o)

So - the way to go must be to look for inspiration to be inspired - a way to kick-start the creative process inside yourself.

1, Your brain is a muscle - it can be trained just as any other muscle. It can also be trained to think in a creative way - despite what others try to teach you!

2, Free your mind by looking for inspiration in all other places than the ones related to your problem.

Go for the unexpected - the new extraordinary solutions to trivial problems. Your design will soon enough be obstructed by limited funds, materials and production methods (+ plus your customer's deadline)

May I suggest that you have a look some inspired souls:

Stagis Team-blogging Coming Up!

Today the Stagis-team is beginning to blog. During the next month we'll be practicing blogging and in mid-february we'll launch the site in a new design and go public.

A few of the tools we'll be using (as any good blog should contain them):

Links
lots of them and including credits - reading blogs is a cool way of surfing the net (check this one for instance)

Personal tone of voice
both your own and the voice of the group which will develop over time

Comments
well, this is also done by others than our team. But the way we write may help people comment

Media
this is not part of defining blogs in general but I suggest it should be part of ours. Could be pictures, video, sound and so on...

Our blog will be run on the enthusiasm of whatever our interests are; what we do together as well as things we find interesting or appealing. Everything from design to news, last nights party to technology of tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing where it'll take us!
